Muntinlupa e-Jeepney is a Finalist in the 2017 Global UITP Awards in Canada

Muntinlupa’s sustainable mobility efforts is being recognized as it is honored to be a finalist inthe Customer Experience category at the global Union Internationale des Transports Publics (UITP) Awards 2017.  Other finalists included in the same category are from France, United Kingdom, and Oman.  Muntinlupa’s e-jeepney program is the only finalist from the Philippines.   

The UITP is an event held every two years that highlight successful projects implemented around the world that place public transport at the heart of urban and local mobility system.  The UITP Awards will be held in Montreal, Canada on Wednesday, May 17, 2017.  

MUNTINLUPA’S E-JEEPNEY PROGRAM

Muntinlupa City is a leader in promoting alternative energy to transform a cultural icon and the primary mode of public land transportation in the Philippines, the jeepney.

In October 2016, Muntinlupa City was awarded by the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines as the Electric Jeepney Capital of the Philippines for having numerous units and contributing to the reduction of air and noise pollution in the country.  

A partnership between the local city government and Lingkod Muntinlupa Foundation (LMF), a non-stock non-profit organization, the e-Jeepneys were created to help address the growing need for a sustainable, environment-friendly transport solution in the booming city of Muntinlupa.  Riding the e-Jeepneys are free as it is a benefit of cardholders of the Muntinlupa Care Card, the benefit card of the city government.
